The Running Whys – Laura Richard

Laura RichardIt’s been more than a decade since Laura Richard left home to earn her Ph.D in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Oxford in England. Now 31, and in the midst of her career with Procter & Gamble in Brussels, Belgium, Richard is about to tackle another challenge, this time in the demanding and grueling sport of triathlon.

Specifically, she’ll wear the Canadian colours in the 30-35 female division of ITU Triathlon Age Group World Championships in Rotterdam from Sept 14-17, the latest sporting accomplishment in a career that’s included a berth on the prestigious Oxford rowing team. Continue reading

The Running Whys – Fran Robinson

There is a special picture of Fran Robinson in her personal library, one from last winter’s cross-country ski season, set on a beautiful day, sun shining as she looks intently onto the track feeling fit, happy with her training and ready to race.

For Robinson, the Ontario native who moved to New Brunswick to study her master’s degree, it was the culmination of months of training, complete with her summer leg work that allows her to challenge herself and live through a philosophy of active living. Continue reading
